Kadans to add capital Amsterdam to its international portfolio.

The City of Amsterdam and Amsterdam University Medical Centers (UMC) have selected Kadans Science Partner to develop a plot at the Medical Business Park. The Medical Business Park is a medically oriented business park on the grounds of Amsterdam UMC, location AMC in Zuidoost. The development of plot E was tendered out in October 2019. Kadans Science Partner will realize at least 7,000 m2 of gross floor space on the plot for companies and institutions focused on medical services. It concerns laboratory space and supporting office functions. Construction work will start in early 2021.

Alderman Victor Everhardt (Economic Affairs): “The development of this building on the Medical Business Park is a strong impulse for further innovation in the life sciences & health sector. The expansion of laboratory capacity on the park responds to the growing demand for space for laboratories. The shared lab spaces ensure that scientists can share the costs of research and exchange knowledge more easily. These scientists make an important contribution to future healthcare in Amsterdam and beyond”.

Sustainable building for multiple tenants
Kadans Science Partner specializes in projects for knowledge institutions and corporate research & development departments. Kadans currently has 30 buildings in its portfolio at home and abroad and accommodates over 275 companies in the sectors: life sciences & health, medical technology, biobased industry, agri-food and high-tech. Kadans Science Partner will realize a future-proof and energy-neutral building on plot E of the Medical Business Park. Kadans will also be continuously involved in selecting tenants and monitoring the preconditions.

Emile Spek, housing director Amsterdam UMC: “The Amsterdam UMC is looking forward to the collaboration with Kadans and expects that the realization of a multi-tenant building for healthcare research will be a further stimulus for the LSH segment.

Chiel van Dijen, Commercial Director of Kadans: “We look forward to contributing to the development of the Medical Business Park in Amsterdam. We believe in the power of inspiring buildings with central facilities and services, so that innovation and entrepreneurship come together. This park is a unique addition to our international network of science parks. We are going to develop plot E with enthusiasm, where we will continue to support the business activity in the future”.

Development Medical Business Park
The development of the Medical Business Park is important to further strengthen the position of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area as an international life sciences & health location. The Medical Business Park has a total area of 100,000 square metres available for new construction. The current market demands scientists to broaden and accelerate their research, while at the same time reducing development costs. That is why more and more use is being made of shared research facilities. With shared facilities, high-quality opportunities also come within the reach of starters and newcomers. This increases the chance of scientific and commercial breakthroughs and offers start-ups more opportunities to grow into mature companies.
