SMART Photonics, an independent pure-play foundry that manufactures high-quality photonic integrated circuits, has signed a long-term strategic cooperation agreement with TU/e. The move aims to further strengthen the development of indium phosphide (InP) photonic integration technology and provide a smooth new technology path for end customers.

Photonic technology uses photons (light) to transmit information. Photonic chips, also known as photonic integrated circuits (PICs), integrate photonic functions into microchips to create smaller, faster, and more energy-efficient devices. These next-generation chips will revolutionize many applications and new technologies. Integrated photonics is expected to play an important role in solving major societal challenges and bringing technological solutions to the next level.
