Leiden, 12 May 2022 – The new R&D business centre at Leiden Bio Science Park, Plus Ultra Leiden, was officially opened today. The Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport – Ernst Kuipers – turned the first key with Michel Leemhuis (CEO & co-founder, Kadans Science Partner), Ida Haisma (Director, Leiden Bio Science Park Foundation) and Henri Lenferink (Mayor of Leiden Municipality). The opening marks a new milestone in the further development of Leiden Bio Science Park.

The building represents over 17,000 square metres of flexibly divisible business space. Plus Ultra Leiden has also been rated ‘Excellent’ within the sustainability hallmark BREAAM. The official opening took place during the Life Sciences Café. Today, campus residents, stakeholders, involved parties and other interested parties had a first look inside the newest addition to the Leiden Bio Science Park.

Central location for growth and cooperation

Plus Ultra is a development of Kadans Science Partner and offers companies, such as scale-ups, the chance to grow at Leiden Bio Science Park. The community revolves around life sciences and health, and the building is the central meeting point for companies and organisations at the science park. The R&D business centre brings together a large group of entrepreneurial companies, start-ups and knowledge organisations. In addition, the shared facilities help encourage further meetings between the various tenants.

Plus Ultra Leiden is also part of the Kadans international network, which already connects 24 science parks and campuses in Europe. This encourages cooperation between innovative companies, knowledge and educational institutions to work together for a better future.

Key, innovative players

During the official opening, attendees got to know the first tenants of Plus Ultra Leiden. For instance, Gabriel de Scheemaker (Director & co-founder, LeydenJar Technologies), Jeroen Rovers (Chief Medical Officer, Immunicum AB), Jaap Koopman (CEO, Fibriant) and Ingeborg van Gemeren (VP Biz Dev & Marketing, Thermo Fisher) spoke about the innovative activities and growth of their organisations.

“We are extremely proud of this brand new laboratory and office building. Indeed, Plus Ultra Leiden represents a key location when it comes to life sciences, health and sustainability,” says Michel Leemhuis, CEO of Kadans Science Partner. “It is an important asset for the science park community as well as for our own ecosystem of services and networks.”
